Parking in the city

I wouldn’t say I miss you. We met right on schedule,
and parted not a moment too soon.

But today I circled the lot for what felt like hours
before I found a single open parking spot,
on a shitty side street far enough away to make my feet sore,
and I thought of you: that angry vein in your neck,
your creative threats pelted at other drivers.

If you were here, you might say,
β€œdon’t anthropomorphize a corpse” or β€œI will always love you,”
depending on your mood.

In any case, I hope there’s nothing left to bitch about,
in whichever heaven you've managed to weasel your way into.

I love this. It’s touching without being overly sentimental, and seems to give a sense of your friend’s personality and humor. I’d like to hope hope they’d like it and feel well-represented by it. Thank you for sharing.
