Groundhog’s sorrow

The groundhog did not see his shadow
But winter did not end
We drove him back into his burrow
To appease the weatherman

The catfish begged the crocodile
But still the catfish bled
Such is the logic of large reptiles
Whose bellies must be fed

The artist painted chiaroscuro
Portraits of the dead
The critic thought the morbid mural
Could've use a brighter red

Something about that old wheelbarrow
Fills my soul with dread
I've seen enough of groundhog's sorrow
To stay inside instead
