How to be an idiot

Keep the dead bird in a shoebox in your closet because you love it so. Run your momโ€™s cigarettes through the washing machine because you love her so. Write and burn the same letter, every year on the first day of Spring because once, you loved him so. Lean so far over the railing to catch the spark of koi fish that you fall into the pond. Try hard enough to fail. Fail, and try again. Find only a bike lock where your bicycle used to be. Leave it there. Just start walking. When the fight begins, between brain and body, travel your own heart like a globe until youโ€™ve circled back home. Tell yourselfโ€”out loudโ€”or sing it in a poem: it means something! It means something! It means something!
