Lullaby for A students

Write to rest your head
Read to rest your hands
Sleep to keep your wits about you
Dream to understand

Strike the match in anger
Endure the flame reflected
But strike to light the path to answer
Heart and soul perfected

Know that sometimes sympathy
Is cruelty in disguise
And β€œfire, will you walk with me?”
An introductory lie

Trust me, love will change your mind
About your winding road
On mornings after, wake to find
You were already home

You’ll surely learn this on your own
In as much or little time
Remember not to need the poem
as bad as you need rhyme
